Each year, CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs (National Law Universities). The exam is a centralized entrance test to get admission to various Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. Around 20 NLUs participate in the admission process through CLAT. Students who are willing to get admission through CLAT must know the important details of the exam, like CLAT exam month, CLAT syllabus 2026, CLAT exam pattern, etc., well in advance. CLAT 2026: Exam Pattern

Before we move on to the CLAT syllabus 2026, we will look at the exam pattern of CLAT 2026. The exam pattern of clat helps the candidates become familiar with the exam and thereby helps to maximize their CLAT score. This way, the aspirants have a higher chance of getting admission through CLAT 2026.

The CLAT exam assesses candidates’ command of English, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge, and Mathematics. Along with this, the candidates' speed, accuracy, comprehension, and interpretational skills are also assessed.

The exam is divided into 5 sections, i.e., English (including comprehension), General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

  • All sections combined have 150 questions.

  • The exam duration is 2 hours (120 minutes) without any sectional timings.

  • Each correct answer fetches 1 mark, and each incorrect answer leads to a deduction of 0.25 marks. There will be negative marking.

  • The mode of examination is Pen and Paper mode.

  • The exam will include passages. These passages will be followed by a set of questions.
