KL University officials, along with NAAC monitoring team members, have been arrested by CBI for involvement in illegal activities related to the NAAC rating process. The CBI revealed that they arrested 10 individuals from the Koneru Lakshmiah Education Foundation (KLEF) in Vaddeswar, Guntur district. These arrests were made in a case where KL University officials and members of the NAAC inspection team were accused of taking bribes in exchange for granting an "A++" rating. The CBI has started an investigation into the case, and a case has been filed against the KLEF office bearers and NAAC monitoring team members.
Following this incident, the CBI conducted raids in 20 locations across the country, including Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, New Delhi, Bhopal, Sambalpur, Bilaspur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and other places. During the raids, CBI officials seized around 37 lakh rupees in cash, 6 Lenovo laptops, one iPhone 16 Pro, one gold coin, American Tourister trolley bags, and many other valuable items. Those arrested include KLEF Vice Chancellor GP Sarathi Verma, Vice President Koneru Raja Harin, and the Hyderabad campus director of KL University, A. Ramakrishna. Along with them, six members of the NAAC monitoring team were also arrested.
In this case, an FIR has been filed against senior NAAC officials and 14 individuals from KLEF. CBI officials have stated that they will continue their investigation and take further action. This incident has raised doubts about the NAAC accreditation process, and there is now a need to reconsider the rating procedure.
